TIPS TO PREVENT AND CONTROL COCKROACHES FROM YOUR HOME

12 May

To begin, you need understand the type of bug you're dealing with. There are several species of roaches that like to infest our homes. German cockroaches, which grow to be approximately half an inch long and are brown with two darker stripes behind the head, are among them. The American cockroach, which can grow up to 2 inches long and is reddish-brown with a yellow spot below the head, is another popular one. Both of these species have wings; American cockroaches can fly for short distances, whereas German cockroaches rarely do. Asian cockroaches, which are more common in warmer climates such as Florida, are similar in size and color to German cockroaches, but they can fly.

Seal the entry points.
Cockroaches are most active in trying to sneak inside during the summer heat, when they seek cooler hiding places, or in the fall, when they prepare for the winter. They gain access to dwellings via cracks and gaps in doors, windows, and foundations. You can avoid an infestation by keeping the bugs out of the house in the first place. Weatherstripping should be used to close gaps around windows and doors, and caulk should be used to seal cracks.

Store Food in Sealed Containers
Cockroaches can gnaw through cardboard and thin plastic, which is commonly used to store food. Transfer food to sealed, sturdy containers if you suspect a roach infestation. All products in thin packaging, from cereal to flour to chocolate chips, are vulnerable. Store food in its original packaging in large, robust plastic containers for quick and easy protection on a broad scale.

Dry Up Moist Areas
Roaches are attracted to dripping faucets and leaking pipes. Moisture should be checked in areas such as behind toilets, under sinks, and throughout basements. Repair any leaking pipes or faucets. To dry out damp regions in the basement, use a dehumidifier.
